In the last few years there are numerous researches that started to change the view of the public. Instead of showing the eggs as unhealthy, they prove that one egg per day contributes to a better day and a better life. In correlation to the other foods, eggs are quite cheap; have many valuable vitamins important for the brain; contain many antioxidants, lutein and zaxine, which are important for good sight and keeping the eyes healthy.

7 INTERESTING FACTS

  • Mother hen turns her egg around 50 times a day, so the yolk doesn’t stick to the egg-shell.

  • Layers produce an average of 300 eggs/year. Starting at the age of 19 weeks, lays eggs for 12 months.

  • As the layer grows old, produces bigger eggs.

  • White shelled eggs are the product of white feathered layers. The layers that have red feathers, lay brown shelled eggs.

  • The colour of the egg is in no correlation with the quality or taste of the egg itself. There’s no difference in the nutritive ingredients of eggs with different coloured shell.

  • The biggest egg in the world had 5 yolks. A very common occurrence are eggs with 2 yolks. Those are the result of very fast ovulation and are usually a product of very young layers or layers that are at the end of their productive period.

  • China is the biggest egg producer – around 160 billion/year. In the USA, around 260 million layers produce 65 billion eggs/year.
